However, this isn’t because you are hungrier, it’s due to a shift in both your leptin and ghrelin levels.

There is a common misconception that hunger is connected to your willpower, but that isn’t the case. Hunger is controlled by two hormones, leptin and ghrelin. To lose weight you need to control both of these hormones, but a lack of sleep makes this virtually impossible. Ghrelin controls your appetite and stimulates feelings of hunger while leptin suppresses the appetite. A lack of sleep raises the ghrelin levels in the stomach while causing leptin levels to go down.

Ghrelin effectively stimulate your metabolism, the more you produce the more you stimulate your hunger levels while at the same time you are reducing the amount of calories you burn. While, leptin is a hormone that is produced in your fat cells, the less leptin you produce the more your stomach feels empty. In essence, the impact of both of these hormones can increase your appetite and also reduces the amount of calories that your body is burning- which is not good for those wanting to lose weight.

Sleeping less than 7 hours a night can significantly reduce or even undo the benefits of training and eating healthy.

LACK OF SLEEP SABOTAGES YOUR GYM TIME

Sleep deprivation doesn’t just negatively impact your diet; it can also spread into your workouts.
