Are you taking in enough vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in your diet? With our modern lifestyles, it is likely that you are deficient in one of these areas. The temptation of cupcakes, fast food, and soft drinks have flooded our bodies with empty caloric content such as sugar, depriving our bodies from the rich nutrients they need from a healthy balanced diet. Vitamins, minerals, and amino acids are the basic building blocks of nutrition and your life!

Vitamins are absolutely vital within the human body. They are essential to maintain good health, promote many functions with in the body, and disease prevention. There are 13 primary vitamins and are classified as either water or fat-soluble. Water-soluble vitamins, like B and C, are stored in your body for short periods of time and excreted in urine. This type of vitamin should be consumed daily from food or vitamin supplement. Fat-Soluble vitamins, like A, D, E, and K, can be stored for longer periods of time within the liver.

Essential minerals are necessary for our body to thrive. Essential minerals are categorised as major minerals (macrominerals), which include sodium, chloride, potassium, and calcium to name a few and trace minerals (microminerals) such as iron, zinc, and selenium. In order to obtain these minerals we need to eat a well balanced diet. Each mineral serves many functions, but not limited to regulation, balance, and structural support.

Amino acids work together to build proteins for skin, hair, muscle tissues, organs, etc., so our bodies can optimally function. There are two types of amino acids: essential and non-essential. Essential amino acids are not naturally produced with in the body and are taken from daily food intake. We need continual supply of these amino acids to stay healthy. Whereas, non-essential amino acids are naturally found and produced in our bodies from essential amino acids or from the natural breakdown of proteins. Your body needs a combination of various amounts of 20 essential and non-essential amino acids to be healthy and functioning at its best.
